Overall Goals:

  • Participants will gain insights into the distinctions between first responder culture and the general population.
  • Participants will learn about tailored approaches and interventions for addressing issues commonly observed among first responders.
  • Participants will be educated on various ways in which first responders might be referred to mental health services, such as FFDE and wellbeing checks.

Day 1:

  • Delving into first responder culture: Its significance and the need for comprehension.
  • Techniques for building rapport and effectively engaging in treatment with first responders.
  • Introduction to prevalent issues among first responders.

Day 2:

  • In-depth exploration of common challenges faced by first responders, including trauma, substance use, and intimate partner violence (IPV).
  • Teaching techniques and interventions suited for collaborating with first responders.
  • In-depth examination of specific evaluation and therapy methods: FFDE and FRAP/wellbeing checks, and the provider’s role in these processes.
